The Red Devils boss says it is now beyond his side to claim a Champions League spot for the next season.

Manchester United lost 3-1 against Arsenal in a Premier League game on Saturday. Cristiano Ronaldo scored for the Red Devils again, but three goals from Nuno Mendez, Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka won the game for Arsenal.

The defeat saw United remain sixth in the Premier League, six points behind the Gunners, who reclaimed their fourth place. With six games remaining until the end of the season, it is highly unlikely that United will go ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham on the table.

In a post-match interview, Ralf Rangnick was asked if he thinks United’s chances of securing Champions League qualification are over.

“Pretty sure,” the Red Devils boss responded.

“For me, even before the game it wasn’t likely, but after today’s result, the top four is gone, yes.”

He added: “There is a lot of work for sure [for Ten Hag], we knew before the game.

“But we also showed what kind of football we can play. Although we had to deal with the two early goals, we still showed the attitudes.

“So there is nothing about the attitude of the players that we should fault today.”

United will now prepare to face Chelsea in their next league game on Thursday.
