Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been given some pointers on how to get Manchester United back on the right track by former teammate Dwight Yorke.

After a promising second half to last season, Manchester United entered the 2020/21 campaign brimming with confidence. Three games later, however, it’s now the complete opposite.

The Red Devils, who haven’t won a Premier League title since 2012/13, have lost two of their opening three fixtures. Making it worse was that both defeats came at Old Trafford with a 9-2 aggregate scoreline.

Crystal Palace thumped United 3-1 in the first game before former coach Jose Mourinho led Tottenham to a 6-1 victory last weekend.

The pressure has, naturally, increased tenfold on Solskjaer following that horrific defeat. Therefore, Yorke has weighed in on what his old teammate could do to turn the situation around.

“The manager has to believe he can inject that energy. It looked a bit lackluster. We need some leaders. We need winners on the football pitch,” the ex-Red Devils striker told talkSPORT.

“Until we get that on a consistent basis, we seem to make one step forwards and two steps back at the moment. We need to find a way to be consistent.

“I’m not sure he’s going to get them by the scruff of the neck. He’s not a Roy Keane by any means. He has a different style of management but I expect him at least to be having some stern words.

“He has to address the players in no uncertain ways and get people to be pulling their weight in the team.

“I’m sure there will be some harsh words said. We haven’t seen this side of Ole but I’m sure he’s got that ruthlessness inside him as well.”

Bookmakers are tipping Solskjaer for the sack amid rumors Mauricio Pochettino could replace him in the United dugout.
