Dimitar Berbatov has heaped praise on Mauricio Pochettino but warns the Argentine may not be the answer to Manchester United’s problems.

Over the past few days, ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with a move to Manchester United. Given the Red Devils’ recent run of results, that rumor doesn’t exactly come as a surprise.

United’s devastating 6-1 defeat to Spurs last weekend was all it took for rumors to emerge over Ole Solskjaer’s future at the club.

The position of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at United is under scrutiny again following the club’s poor start to the season. However, Berbatov believes fans should think twice about putting pressure on their manager. More so, he warns appointing Pochettino as manager might not be the answer to United’s current struggles.

“Solskjaer has taken some criticism recently, I can understand why the odds say he is the most likely manager to leave his post, especially if they continue down this road,” Berbatov told Betfair.

“The pressure on him will only continue to grow, and if they continue to fail to win points, the point will likely come where action is taken.

“I believe he is still fine for the job personally, and we will have to see. To me, it is amazing that Mauricio Pochettino is available for this job, one of football’s finest coaches in my opinion.

Berbatov added: “Pochettino may be ‘the man’, but at some stage, they were all ‘the man’- Moyes, van Gaal, Mourinho, all were the next saviour at one stage.

It remains to be seen what the Red Devils’ hierarchy have in mind. Solskjaer was once their beloved player and it’s understandable if they give him more time to prove himself.

But with a manager like Pochettino free and available, it’s only a matter of time before those rumors could turn reality if United continue to struggle on the pitch.
