Manchester United football director John Murtough confirms club have begun their search for a new manager.
Manchester United football director John Murtough has confirmed that the club have officially begun their search for a new permanent manager who can ‘get them back challenging for top domestic and European trophies’.
The Red Devils released their latest financial figures, revealing a 7.3 percent increase in revenue, and Murtough admitted United aim to return to the pinnacle of English and European football.
Ralf Rangnick was appointed as interim United boss following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking last year, and Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag have been touted as potential candidates to take over at Old Trafford in the summer.
Murtough said: “We know that consistency is key as we strive for a top-four finish this season.
“I want to reiterate however that this is not the ultimate objective for Manchester United, and everyone at the club is focused on challenging for the top trophies.
“We are now conducting a thorough process for the appointment of a new permanent manager who will take charge this summer, with the objective to get us back to challenging for those domestic and European titles.”
United have struggled in the Premier League this season, and face an uphill battle to qualify for the Champions League.
They drew 1-1 with Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie last week, and have a tough set of upcoming fixtures, including a Manchester derby over the weekend and a meeting with Liverpool soon after.
