The Red Devils have received a squad blow ahead of their upcoming match against Burnley.

Manchester United will face Burnley in their next Premier League game on Tuesday. The Red Devils boss Ralf Rangnick confirmed on Monday that Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard have returned to his squad ahead of the game.

However, hours after Rangnick’s conference, Man United announced they will play without two of their first-team players against Burnley.

“Telles missed Friday’s home game with Middlesbrough in the Emirates FA Cup, with it emerging he returned a positive test prior to the game,” Man United announced.

“His compatriot Fred, who came on as a substitute against the Teessiders, has now also tested positive. He could also be a doubt for Saturday’s game with Southampton at Old Trafford as a result.”

The pair’s absence is an untimely blow to United’s plans ahead of the must-win game. The Red Devils hope to bounce back from their underwhelming FA Cup defeat against Middlesbrough as they return to Premier League action.

Rangnick’s side sit fourth in the English top-flight with 38 points from their 22 games. Fifth-place West Ham are closely following them with 37 points as they also have a game at hand.
