Old Trafford was the place where Man United wanted to get back to the top against Sheffield United. We got tonight’s player ratings.
Man United ran riot this evening against Southampton at Old Trafford in the Premier League. The Red Devils completely demolished the saints in a historic evening for both sides that started with a key mistake in the first half. On the day of his first-ever start as a professional, Alexandre Jankewitz made a horror tackle against Scott McTominay early in the first half.
It was a direct red card that was confirmed on the replay. The Scottish midfielder was lucky to not get a fractured knee after this terrible tackle. Southampton simply couldn’t hold the line with 10-men at the Theatre of Dreams this evening. In the first half, United scored four goals through Wan-Bissaka, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, and an own goal from Bednarek.
A second half to forget for Southampton.
After the break, Manchester United took a while to score another goal but they made a historic night possible due to the Saints’ defensive mistakes. With 20 minutes left on the clock, Anthony Martial got on the scoreboard and drove the Southampton defense crazy. McTominay bagged himself a goal from a long distance after that.
Bruno scored from the spot after a penalty committed against Martial. The French forward scored his brace near the end. And finally, Daniel James got a gift from Bruno for United’s historic 9-0 final victory. It’s been years since the Red Devils hadn’t won a match by more than four goals in the Premier League. But 9-0 hadn’t taken place since the ‘90s decade. None of both clubs will ever forget this evening.
