The Sky Blues are about to start their title defense soon but will be without one of their key players for the opening few games.

Manchester City star Phil Foden is set to miss the start of 2021-22 as he will stay on the sidelines for “around three to four weeks” due to a foot injury.

Foden sustained the injury while on international duty for England at Euro 2020 just ahead of the final against Italy, which the Three Lions lost after a penalty shootout.

The 21-year-old will now sit out Man City’s opening game of the new Premier League season away to Tottenham on Sunday as well as the next two outings against Norwich City and Arsenal.

Should his recovery go according to plan, the midfielder will be available for the match against Leicester City on September 11.

“It’s still a little bit sore,” Foden said about the condition of his foot, speaking to Sky Sports.

“It was such a shame to do it before the Euro final, but I’m working hard in the gym. Hopefully it flies by and I can get back on the pitch.”

Asked how long he expects to remain out of action, Foden responded: “I’d say around three to four weeks more.”
