After winning back his place in Pep Guardiola’s line-up, Manchester City have awarded John Stones a new long-term deal.

John Stones has signed a new five-year contract at Manchester City until 2026 and he couldn’t happier about it.

As Stones’ previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season, City have moved to secure his future. It comes after the defender’s change in fortunes over at the Etihad Stadium.

A loss of form and injury left Stones out in the cold in 2019/20 and on the brink of an exit. But the 27-year-old won back favor under Pep Guardiola last season by forming an impressive partnership with Ruben Dias last season. He was also a regular in England’s run to the Euro 2020 final this summer.

“I couldn’t be happier. I love being part of this squad,” Stones told the club’s website.

“There are so many quality players here and I know we can continue winning trophies, which is my main focus.

“Working with the manager [Pep Guardiola] is a dream – he has taught me so much about the game and I feel like I learn something new every single day.

“The success we’ve had in the last four years has been incredible. To be a part of it has been a dream come true and I just want to continue winning. This is the best place for me to play my football and fulfill my ambitions.”

Stones’ new deal is a welcome boost for City as Eric Garcia has joined Barcelona and Aymeric Laporte’s future is in doubt.
