In what can be described as a shocking development, Manchester City are reportedly eyeing up a move to sign Danny Ings from Southampton.
If reports are to be believed, Manchester City are considering a move for Southampton star Danny Ings.
It’s no secret that the Citizens are on the lookout for another forward to replace Aguero. The Argentine might be one of the best ever forwards to grace the Premier League but his time at City looks to be up. His current contract expires by end of the season and there is the likelihood of the star forward leaving for a challenge elsewhere.
For a club like City looking out to replace Aguero, one would only imagine they would chase a striker who is better or has the potential to do more than the Argentine. It does make sense that the Manchester side have been linked to a certain ‘goal machine’ in Erling Haaland much recently.
However, the latest report is that the Citizens might look elsewhere in their quest to find a new striker and their answer could come in the form of Danny Ings.
As per Sky Sports, City are reluctant to get involved in a £100 million-plus bidding war with Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign Haaland.
Danny Ings could come as a much cheaper alternative with proven Premier League experience as well.
The 28-year-old has been consistent for the Saints since he joined from Liverpool, scoring 30 goals in 60 games across all competitions.
However, Ings has stalled on signing a new contract at St Mary’s and his current deal expires in mid-2022.
Southampton were willing to make their star player the highest paid ever in the history, after offering him a £100,000-a-week contract offer.
Talks began but soon hit a snag over a £20m release clause inserted by the player’s representatives.
The report claims Guardiola is a fan of the 28-year-old and is now considering to move for the player.
Manchester City fans have not taken this well so far, claiming the club can do ‘better’ than Danny Ings.
While he might not boast the ‘quality’ City fans are hoping for, he does have Premier League experience that could come in handy.
