Pep Guardiola has finally dropped a comment on continuous reports linking striking sensation Erling Haaland to Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola described Erling Haaland as one of the finest young strikers in the world as speculation grows that Manchester City will move for the ‘goal machine’ in the summer.

Those rumours are also now a sub-plot to the Champions League after the Citizens were drawn with Haaland’s Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals of the continental competition.

Haaland is a major threat to City’s progress in the competition, after scoring an amazing 20 goals in his first 14 games in Europe’s elite tournament.

Guardiola said he has not had a chance to watch Dortmund much but had been impressed by the Norweigian.

Speaking on reports linking Haaland to the Etihad, the City boss said in a press-conference: “The numbers speak for themselves – he’s one of the best strikers in the world at his age.”

“I saw a few games, the highlights, the numbers are impressive. I know the quality of this player, everybody knows. In two weeks I could answer better because I didn’t see much.

When asked to comment on whether he would be interested in signing the player, Guardiola provided a very predictable and professional response.

He added: “He’s a player from Dortmund. I don’t like when people talk about our players. You understand I cannot answer this question.”

Haaland is currently valued at €110m and could well be the most wanted player in Europe this summer. Should Dortmund fail to qualify for the Champions League, they might be forced to sell their prized asset. It would be interesting to see what the future holds for a player who has started his career on a bright note.
