Etihad Stadium was the place for this Boxing Day match between Man City and Newcastle United. We have the player ratings.
On Boxing Day, Manchester City received a visit from Newcastle United at Etihad Stadium. The Premier League continued on the holiday season as it’s been a tradition for many decades. Despite having pouring rain in Manchester, both sides played their best in order to entertain people around the world. Pep Guardiola still has that goal problem with his offensive players but today’s rival wasn’t as competitive as others.
The Magpies were never at the level of this Citizens’ side as they were completely dominated throughout the 90 minutes. Regardless of this dominance, Man City still only won by two goals. Ilkay Gundogan scored the opener after a brilliant assist from Raheem Sterling. The German midfielder seems to have finally found his ideal place in Manchester City’s midfield. He was one of the best men on the pitch this evening.
Ferran Torres seals the victory for City.
In a play that was very similar to the first goal, Ferran Torres scored the second goal in the second half after an assist from Cancelo. With only two goals, Manchester City still made us feel like they were the most dominant side of the game.
A victory that takes them to the table’s fifth place with 26 points but one less match than most clubs in the tournament. As the Premier League progresses, we can see a six-point gap between the top spot and the ninth position. This competition is the most interesting in European football, by far.
