Maldini sets Champions League qualification target for Milan

AC Milan are making preparations with the objective of securing a top-four Serie A finish in the 2020/21 season, suggests Paolo Maldini.

The past few weeks of the summer transfer window has been a period of much activity from AC Milan, with the club supposedly working on wrapping up several deals.

Milan managed to pin down star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a one-year contract extension on Monday after prolonged negotiations.

The club also reportedly stole Sandro Tonali from right under the nose of Inter Milan. Tonali was said to have agreed to personal terms with Inter a couple of months ago but they stalled for too long which prompted him to change his mind and join their rivals.

Furthermore, they are closing in on the signing of Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz, if rumors are to be believed. Diaz will undergo medicals this week after which the transfer will be made official.

It is also being reported that Tiemoue Bakayoko would also make his return to San Siro in the coming weeks.

Finally, Tottenham’s Serge Aurier and Fiorentina’s Federico Chiesa have also been linked with a move to the Serie A side.

“The club has made important efforts to improve our position in the table. The idea is to return to the top four. Many things would change next year,” technical director Paolo Maldini told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s not a declared objective, but Milan can’t help but think about competing for the top four positions in Serie A.

“The transfer market has just started but we have continued with various operations. The most difficult was undoubtedly the renewal of Ibrahimovic, but it was also our priority.”
