England defender Luke Shaw moved one step closer to entering the record books following a brilliant performance against Ukraine.

Luke Shaw has closed in on David Beckham’s record for the most assists in an England jersey at the European Championship.

The Manchester United full-back impressed in England’s Euro 2020 quarter-final clash with Ukraine on Saturday. He timed his runs perfectly and set up goals for Harry Maguire and Harry Kane in a stunning 4-0 victory.

Along with his assist for Raheem Sterling in the 2-0 win over Germany last week, Shaw has now supplied three assists in Euro 2020. The only other England player to match this feat is Beckham.

The former Three Lions captain made five assists in seven appearances in the European Championship between 2000 and 2004 as per Squawka.

But with at least one more game to play in Euro 2020, and possibly another European Championship appearance in 2024 coming up, Shaw may fancy his chances at taking this prestigious creative record.

He is still only 25 years old and is currently the undisputed first-choice left-back in the England squad.

Gareth Southgate’s side, meanwhile, return to action on Wednesday to face Denmark in a Euro 2020 semi-final clash at Wembley.
