After Atletico Madrid’s thrashing against Bayern Munich, we talk about the terrible fortune Luis Suarez has against the Bavarian giants.

Luis Suarez will never forget last Wednesday’s match against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. This fresh defeat meant that Luis has been a part of the two Spanish sides that were spanked by the German machine. To those who don’t remember, he was there when Hansi Flick’s side obliterated FC Barcelona in last season’s knock-out stage.

A game that ended with an 8-2 defeat for the Blaugrana. After that, everything changed for Barcelona and Luis Suarez needed to start looking for a new club. He might’ve thought he would never experience such an embarrassing evening again, but life had another surprise to give him.

Atletico Madrid got Bayern Munich as a rival in the draw, they were to open the season with a game at Allianz Arena. Although we all expected Bayern to win this match, we didn’t think they would score four goals against one of Diego Simeone’s teams. Luis Suarez was also a part of this forgettable night for the Colchoneros.

Luis Suarez’s positive spin on the situation.

Despite losing 4-0 today, there’s an upside to this whole situation for Suarez. Out of both matches, he was the only rival player who could score a goal against the German giants. During the game for Barcelona, Suarez got his side’s second goal. The other goal they scored came from David Alaba, which doesn’t count as a goal from the rival per se.

But Luis keeps his negative away Champions League record after the latest defeat at Allianz Arena. It’s been five years without us getting a goal from him as a visit to the continental tournament. Hopefully, Diego Simeone can find that lost spark in Luis Suarez this season and we can enjoy one final great performance from him.

But for now, the Uruguay international will have to love with the stigma of being part of the two squads that were spanked by Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Perhaps he should’ve signed a new contract with Sevilla and avoided this embarrassment for a second time.
