Ahead of Portugal and France’s showdown in Euro 2020, Lucas Digne opened up on the challenge of facing Cristiano Ronaldo.

France must avoid allowing Cristiano Ronaldo too much space, says Lucas Digne, who has also hailed the 36-year-old as ‘an example’.

The Everton left-back is set to face Ronaldo and Portugal in France’s final match in Group F on Wednesday, where he’ll have one of the most undesirable tasks in football – putting the brakes on CR7.

“It’s extraordinary. What he has done in his career is an example for all,” said Digne on Ronaldo’s performances at 36 years of age during a press conference.

The former Barcelona star accepts facing Ronaldo won’t be an easy task at all, especially if he and his teammates allow him too much space.

“When you’re a defender, that’s your job,” Digne said.

“He [Ronaldo] moves a lot across the entire offensive line. It’s always important to not to leave too much space for him.”

France and Portugal will meet at Budapest on Wednesday night needing to avoid defeat at all costs.

Portugal need to win the most, as they sit a point behind the Group F leaders in third place after losing 4-2 to Germany on Saturday. While a draw will be good enough to guarantee France a spot in the last-16 stage of Euro 2020.
