A mouth-watering Premier League clash awaits on Sunday night between Liverpool and the high-flying Leicester City.

One point is all that separates the two sides in the upper half of the league standings. Leicester hold the edge in third-place on 18 points from eight games, with Liverpool a point behind in fourth.

The prize of victory up for grabs at Anfield is the top spot in the Premier League, but who will it be? Or will there be a winner? After all, nothing can be taken for granted in a season full of ups and downs.

It should be a fascinating match, though, between the injured-plagued reigning champions and arguably the standout team of the 2020/21 campaign so far.

Liverpool Form & Stats

Two home records are available for Liverpool at Anfield in scoring for the 39th league match in a row and extending their unbeaten run to 64 league games. It certainly piles the pressure on the hosts.

Not helping matters is Jurgen Klopp’s ongoing injury crisis after losing Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Jordan Henderson. A positive COVID-19 test has also ruled Mohamed Salah out.

Although the Reds boss has handled the crisis relatively well, especially without Van Dijk. The Dutch center-back’s knee injury led many to write the club off as title winners. Gomez’s own spell on the sidelines fueled this belief even more so. But Klopp has made the most out of an unpleasant situation, winning five games on the bounce before drawing 1-1 draw against Manchester City last time out.

It’s worth noting, however, Liverpool have conceded the first goal in their last three home league games against Arsenal, Sheffield United, and West Ham. They’ve also kept just one clean sheet in their last 13 league outings.

Key Team Stats
  • Won five of their last six games in all competitions (D1).
  • Won 29 of their last 30 home league games (D1).
  • Unbeaten in their last six league games against Leicester City (W5 D1).
  • Kept just one clean sheet in their last 13 league games.

Leicester City Form & Stats

The Foxes have carried over their strong form in the 2019/20 campaign into the current one and hope to go one better in a top-four finish. They were even the Premier League leaders during the international break.

Considering the way this season has played out so far, there’s even talk of another surprise title. Surely the 2015/16 success was a one-off? But while it is early days, Leicester have already made quite a convincing case.

Brendan Rodgers’ side proved their might by overseeing away victories over Manchester City and Arsenal. In fact, they’ve won all four games on the road this season and recently beat Leeds United 4-1 at Elland Road. One more on Sunday would set a club record of five consecutive away victories in the English top-flight.

Leicester’s start to the season is their best ever, surpassing even the 2015/16 title-winning campaign. And they head to Anfield on a six-match winning run in all competitions.

Key Team Stats
  • Won their last six games in all competitions.
  • Won all four of their away league games this season.
  • Scored first-half goals in five of their last six games in all competitions.
  • Jamie Vardy has scored seven goals in 11 league games against Liverpool.
