The Reds are on the verge of selling one of their experienced midfielders.
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has reportedly agreed to join Al Ittifaq ahead of the next season.
The move will see Henderson reunite with his former Liverpool and England teammate Steven Gerrard. Since appointing Gerrard as their new head coach, Al Ittifaq have been considering moves for several Premier League stars.
It seems the Saudi side are now close to completing their first high-profile signing of the summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Henderson has verbally agreed to join Al Ittifaq ahead of the next campaign. The England international has also received a “green light” from Jurgen Klopp to leave Anfield.
However, the Sky Sports journalist claims Liverpool will demand a transfer fee for Henderson, whose current contract runs until 2025. The Reds are expected to enter talks with the Saudi club in the coming days.
Despite the arrivals of several top-class midfielders at Liverpool, Henderson has remained a key player in Klopp’s squad. He made 43 appearances for the Reds last season while being a part of England’s squad in the World Cup.
A possible move to Al Ittifaq could jeopardize Henderson’s chances of playing for the Three Lions in Euro 2024. Liverpool, on the other hand, will most likely sign a replacement for him ahead of the next season.
According to talkSPORT, Liverpool are considering a move for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia. The highly-rated youngster has attracted interest from a host of elite sides, including Chelsea and Arsenal, but the Reds are leading the race for his signature.
