After a brutal injury blow at the Merseyside derby last week, Liverpool defender is aiming for positive things in the future.

It seems highly unlikely that Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk will play again this season. However, the Netherlands international is staying positive in spite of his battle with surgeries.

As it stands, Van Dijk is required to go through serious procedures in order to recover from his injury. He suffered this horrible crisis after an unfortunate tackle from Jordon Pickford in last week’s Merseyside derby vs Everton.

Evidently, the Dutchman is a prominent figure for Liverpool after his transfer from Southampton in January 2018.

Support from the captain.

However, the Reds captain Jordan Henderson talked about Van Dijk’s attitude post-injury period. He says that the former Celtic man is keeping a good mindset ahead of his recovery.

“He’s the best defender in the world. Of course he is,” Henderson wrote in Liverpool’s matchday programme.

“I think I’d go further and say he’s in the running for the best player in the world, regardless of position.

“But it’s his presence and personality that will leave a hole on matchdays and in the training sessions. As important as the fans think he is, to us as team-mates it’s even more so.

“It was typical of Virgil that after digesting the news, one of the first messages he sent to us – all of us – was upbeat and inspirational.

“The exact content will of course remain private, but there wasn’t one word in there feeling sorry for himself.

“It was all about looking ahead and making sure he comes back better and stronger.

“Likewise, when he came to Melwood on Tuesday he just radiated positivity. That’s the big man. And it’s on us to take his lead and only think about the positive impact we can all have from this moment on.”

Moreover, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reacted regarding Van Dijk’s rehabilitation. The German manager said: “When it comes to the surgery and stuff, it doesn’t make sense for us to give a time schedule. We’ll do that at an appropriate time, but he’s as good as possible.

“We don’t want to know how long he is out for, it will take time for sure. In the end, all people are different so we can’t say for him it’s that long, for him it’s that long.

“It makes sense from a specific moment in the recovery and rehab time. Everybody copes differently with it that’s why there is no need for an update.”
