Liverpool have reportedly been dealt a major blow with reports that Trent Alexander-Arnold could be spending some time on the sidelines.

If the reports making the rounds are true, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold could be facing up to four weeks on the sidelines.

The right-back was forced off during his side’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City and underwent a scan on Merseyside today, having already been ruled out of England’s international fixtures.

Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, knew Alexander-Arnold’s injury would not be minor.

“Trent will be out for England, that is clear.”

“What he has, we don’t know, but he cannot play for England.”

“He will not be the last and not the only one who Gareth [Southgate] will miss for this international break.”

“He will have a scan tomorrow and then we will see.” These were the words of the Liverpool manager on Alexander-Arnold after the club’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad stadium.

Liverpool haven’t announced the extent of the right-back’s injury, but The Times journalist Paul Joyce says he’s expected to be out for up to four weeks.

The injury could now rule the 22-year-old out of England’s upcoming Nations League clashes against Belgium and Iceland, as well as the friendly against the Republic of Ireland on Thursday.

If Alexander-Arnold is out for the full four weeks, then he’ll miss Premier League clashes against Leicester, Brighton, and Wolves and Champions League matches against Atalanta and Ajax.

This isn’t the first injury setback in defense Liverpool have experienced, with Virgil van Dijk expected to be out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury. Elsewhere, stand-in centre-back Fabinho is still nursing a thigh strain.
