Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Trent Alexander-Arnold will play no part in England’s upcoming fixtures during the international break.

Alexander-Arnold was forced off during the second half of Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at the Etihad.

The right-back was taken off for James Milner after going down off the ball.

It appeared Alexander-Arnold had suffered a muscle injury as the defender went down clutching his leg.

He hobbled off the pitch and afterwards Klopp confirmed he would have a scan to reveal the full extent of the issue.

He told his post-match press conference as quoted by Sky Sports: “Trent will be out for England, that is clear.”

“What he has, we don’t know, but he cannot play for England.”

“He will not be the last and not the only one who Gareth [Southgate] will miss for this international break.”

“He will have a scan tomorrow and then we will see.”

Speaking after the game, City boss Pep Guardiola also blasted Premier League officials for their fixture scheduling, blaming them for Alexander-Arnold’s injury.

He expressed sympathy for the young right-back and called for more protection for players.

Guardiola said: “Trent Alexander-Arnold, international English player, now injured.

“Here we believe we are more special, we don’t protect the players, so that is why it is a disaster.”

Liverpool will now be hoping the injury to Alexander-Arnold is nothing serious and only a little knock.
