Anfield was the place where a struggling Liverpool got a visit from Burnley in the Premier League. We got tonight’s player ratings.

Liverpool needed to win tonight’s match against Burnley in order to remain alive in the Premier League title run. Throughout the season, the Reds need to get their props for playing at the highest level despite their many injured players. But they had to eventually run out of gas, that day finally came on Thursday. It had been 1,000 days of Liverpool not losing at Anfield Road in the Premier League.

We can all guess a defeat was bound to happen soon, especially under the circumstances. However, we didn’t expect this loss to come against Burnley tonight. From the first minute they started playing, you could see the exhaustion in players who kept playing since the start of the season. Frustration even got the best of some Reds before the break with an odd confrontation between players.

Alisson makes a mistake with Barnes.

In the second half, we got to see more of the same from the Reds. No gas at all in a complicated creative moment for Jurgen Klopp’s players. Although they had ball possession, no real danger was felt in the air from any of the offensive players. Not even with Salah and Firmino coming on during the second half. Burnley was only waiting for a clear counter-attack opportunity in order to hurt the Reds.

It finally happened with a few minutes left on the clock through Barnes. Alisson got out of his box to defend the chance but he committed a penalty on the striker. The Brazilian goalie wasn’t able to prevent the goal from Burnley and eventually the loss. With this result, Liverpool lags behind on the table with 34 points. They are currently six points behind Manchester United. This squad looks tired, tonight’s events were bound to happen.
