Signed for £36 million back in May, the Frenchman got to make his first appearance for the Reds last night.
Ibrahima Konate was over the moon after making his Liverpool debut, branding the experience as an “unforgettable moment”.
Liverpool played two back-to-back 30-minute-long friendly matches against Wacker Innsbruck and VfB Stuttgart as part of their pre-season in Austria on Tuesday.
Konate didn’t feature in the first match but the full 90 minutes in their 1-1 draw against Stuttgart. Drafted alongside club academy graduate Rhys Williams at the heart of the Reds defense, the 22-year-old gave good initial impressions.
“Yes, I am very happy,” Konate told the club’s official website.
“It’s an unforgettable moment for me. Yes, without our fans – but I am very, very happy.
“Just a little bit sad – very sad – because we didn’t win. But it’s OK, I’m happy.
“I was very happy with the team on the pitch; good communication with everybody. Step by step we will be better, this is the first time in pre-season. We are waiting for the next game.”
Konate will be hoping he can impress manager Jurgen Klopp enough so that he can earn a place in the Liverpool starting XI alongside Virgil van Dijk in the coming season.
