Jesse Lingard stole the headlines on Wednesday night after bagging a brace for West Ham on his debut.

David Moyes has backed Jesse Lingard to get his England career back on track if he keeps up with his current form.

The 28-year-old inspired the Hammers to a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa, bagging a brace at Villa Park. Even better for the midfielder that England boss Gareth Southgate was among those watching on from the stands.

Lingard only joined West Ham on loan from Manchester United last week, due to lack of game time at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils academy graduate is yet to play for England since 2019. It’s no surprise given his poor run of form and lack of action in that period.

Lingard played a key number of games for the Three Lions back in 2018 when they made it to the World Cup semi-finals.

It’s only just his first game for the Hammers but manager David Moyes has backed the player to get back in the good books of Gareth Southgate once again. He was indeed one of the best players on the pitch against Aston Villa.

“If he keeps that form up then it might be Gareth coming knocking again,” Moyes said as per Sky Sports.

“He will have his own ambitions and challenges to show people he is at a level and he showed a really good level, Ross Barkley is very much the same for Villa.

“There are a lot of people who are pushing hard to make the England squad for the Euros and why shouldn’t Jesse push if he’s in the form he is in tonight?

“If he keeps playing as well as he did he will do a brilliant job for West Ham and if he keeps going like that then he’ll get back into the England squad. I hope he can get back to that standard.”
