The French striker hopes to fulfil a childhood dream and add his name alongside a list of Real Madrid legends to have won the Ballon d’Or.

Karim Benzema hopes to emulate his idols, Ronaldo Nazario and Zinedine Zidane, by winning a Ballon d’Or.

The 33-year-old’s prospects for a first Ballon d’Or have improved since helping France win the UEFA Nations League this month. That, on top of his impressive Real Madrid displays, makes him a top contender.

“Win the Ballon d’Or? Yes, that would be one of the many dreams I have had since childhood. Of course, I dreamed of it as a kid,” Benzema told Canal+.

“My idols, whether it’s R9 [Ronaldo] or Zizou [Zidane], they came to Real Madrid and won the Ballon d’Or. And that’s one of the little things I think about. Today, I’m not far from it.”

Incidentally, Real Madrid legends Ronaldo and Zidane have both claimed the Ballon d’Or should go to Benzema for 2021.

Zidane, who coached the France international during his time as manager of Los Blancos, revealed his thoughts over the weekend.
