Ruthless up front once again, the Bavarians recorded a routine victory to keep hold of the Bundesliga top spot.

Robert Lewandowski continued his red-hot goalscoring streak as Bayern Munich hammered Hoffenheim 4-0 on Saturday.

Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann was nowhere to be seen at the Allianz Arena as he is currently in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19 earlier this week, but his absence from the dugout evidently had no determinantal effect on his side’s performance.

The Bavarians first found the target inside the opening 10 minutes when Serge Gnabry pounced on a loose ball and slipped it past Oliver Baumann. Gnabry’s joy, however, was short-lived as his goal was disallowed following a VAR review.

Gnabry did not take too long to find the back of the net again, and that time his effort stood. Thomas Muller and Jamal Musiala combined on the edge of the box before the latter played the ball to the 26-year-old forward, who then produced a clinical finish through the goalkeeper’s legs.

Lewandowski was next to get on the scoresheet, with the leading 2021 Ballon d’Or candidate rifling a right-footed rocket from 25 yards out to bring his tally of this league campaign to 10 goals in just nine games.

It took a while for the defending champions to strike again, with Eric Maxim Choupp-Moting tripling their advantage at minute 82 before Kinglsey Coman killed off the game shortly after with an emphatic finish.

The victory moved Bayern Munich to the top of the Bundesliga standings with 22 points. Hoffenheim, meanwhile, sit in the bottom half of the table, having collected just 11 points from nine games.
