As a way to remind the world that he is still coveted, Robert Lewandowski opened up about the Real Madrid transfer speculation from the past.
There was a time when Real Madrid was trying to do everything in their power to sign Robert Lewandowski. Although he was one of the best strikers in Europe, he still hadn’t become the incredible star he is today. All that happened later as Florentino Perez predicted. Even France Football feels like they owe Robert a Ballon d’Or trophy due to how great he was during that year.
As it was expected, Lewandowski was dangerously close to signing a new contract with Real Madrid a few years back. He recently offered an interview to Gazzetta dello Sport after getting awarded the Golden Shoe. Lewandowski was questioned about his chances to play for Los Blancos and the competition the likes of Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s pretty clear he doesn’t consider himself a lesser footballer but he completely understands what both of them have done for the sport.
Imagine Lewandowski as a Real Madrid player.
In the interview picked up by Football Italia, this is what Lewandowski said about the rumors and the stiff competition he faces every season: “It’s true that I met the president of Real Madrid Florentino Perez once or twice after some matches in Madrid, but I can’t say more. With Bayern, I play in the Champions League every season against clubs from other countries, and I can show how good I am.
“I am focused only on the present and my club to try to win again and again. I don’t think about the speculation about my future made by others. I always compete with myself. I do not compare my numbers and goals with those of Leo and Cristiano. They are great players, they continue to do great things and I have great respect for them. But, I repeat, I also want to continue to show what I can do, no matter how difficult it will be, but I want to continue on the road to success.”
