Robert Lewandowski continued his red hot form in front of goal to send Bayern Munich into the final of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Robert Lewandowski scored in either half to fire Bayern Munich into the final of the FIFA Club World Cup following a 2-0 win over Al Ahly at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium on Monday.
The European champions made their superiority known early on and the African side had goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy to thank for keeping them level in the opening 15 minutes.
It was looking inevitable and the breakthrough came soon enough. Kingsley Coman’s cross found Serge Gnabry in a shooting position and the German cut the ball back to Lewandowski to take a low-drive shot past the Al-Ahly goalkeeper.
Al Ahly quickly had their first chance, but Taher Mohamed’s header from a went straight at Manuel Neuer.
Elsewhere, Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies wasted chances to increase Bayern’s lead before the break.
Bayern continued to enjoy the best of the possession and the chances in the second half. Ahly threatened on the break but failed to test Neuer.
With minutes remaining, Sane whipped in a cross to the back post to give Lewandowski a free header and put the game beyond doubt.
With the brace, Lewandowski continues a remarkable season and is now up to 29 goals for the season in all competitions.
Al-Ahly have seen their impressive 32-game unbeaten run come to an end. However, they can hold their heads up high against the reigning champions of Europe.
Bayern will now take on Mexican outfit Tigres in the final on Thursday. The reigning European champions will now be aiming for the second Club World triumph in their history.
