Robert Lewandowski revealed Bayern Munich were ‘too exhausted’ to celebrate their UEFA Super Cup victory over Sevilla.
Lewandowski helped Bayern Munich collect their fourth major title of 2020 by overseeing a 2-1 win against Sevilla in Thursday’s UEFA Super Cup final at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.
Although the prolific Pole had a rare off night in front of goal in Hungary. He missed a huge chance to cancel out Lucas Ocampos’ opener for Sevilla and missed a sitter at the very end.
But Lewandowski made amends by superbly setting up Leon Goretzka’s equalizer and had linked-up with Thomas Muller to score a brilliant goal before it was ruled out. Javi Martinez was the hero instead by bagging a very late winner.
Bayern didn’t have much to celebrate, though, with a Bundesliga clash against Hoffenheim coming up on Sunday. Thus, they have just two days to prepare for the encounter in Germany. A DFL Super Cup tie with Borussia Dortmund then awaits three days later.
Aside from the quick turnaround in recent fixtures, Bayern’s victory over Sevilla came just a month after beating Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
“We didn’t really celebrate, we were all too exhausted from the 120 minutes,” Lewandowski told Bild on how Bayern celebrated their latest triumph.
“On Saturday we’re flying back to Hoffenheim, we don’t have a day off. Actually, five days of ice baths would be nice now.”
Lewandowski was on target for Bayern’s 8-0 thrashing of Schalke in their Bundesliga opener last week. He’ll hope to add to his tally at the Rhein-Neckar Arena on Sunday.
