Bayern Munich were fairly confident about their chances of winning the Champions League last season, asserts Robert Lewandowski.

If ever there is a debate of a perfect team winning a competition perfectly, Bayern Munich in the 2019/20 Champions League would hold the most weight.

Bayern finished atop the group table with 18 out of 18 points, dismantling Tottenham 10-3 over two legs in the process.

The Bundesliga champions then proved to be too dominant for Chelsea in the Round of 16 stage, beating them with an aggregate scoreline of 7-1.

They were matched against FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals. While the tie looked evenly balanced on paper, it proved to be one-way traffic in reality as Barcelona suffered an 8-2 thrashing.

Semi-finalists Lyon were also no match for Hansi Flick’s men, who comfortably disposed of them with a 3-0 victory.

Paris Saint-Germain proved to be their biggest test, but they managed to scrape a narrow 1-0 win, which landed them their sixth Champions League crown.

“Before the game, we knew we were going to beat Barca,” revealed Robert Lewandowski, a fundamental force behind the team’s success, speaking to Onet.

“Some even said it would be a 5-1 – but an 8-2 is something completely different. We were very confident.

“Before the game against Barca, Serge Gnabry and Joshua Kimmich met me. They didn’t ask whether we would win this game, but whether we would win the Champions League. I answered: ‘Yes.’”
