Real Madrid head to Levante on Sunday afternoon hoping to make it three wins on the bounce as they continue their bid to win back-to-back LaLiga titles for the first time since 2006/07 and 2007/08.

The pressure will, therefore, be on the visitors to deliver at the Ceramica Stadium. It should be a tight affair between the two sides in Spain, with only a single goal separating them in their last four encounters.

Let’s not forget either that Real Madrid’s last visit to Levante in late February ended in a 1-0 defeat.

Levante Form & Stats

Things have hardly been smooth sailing since Levante began their 2020/21 LaLiga campaign. The hosts have already lost twice in their opening three games to sit just two spots above the drop zone in 16th.

Despite the financial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Paco Lopez welcomed Real Madrid youngsters Jorge de Frutos and Dani Gomez to the fold. The pair joined on permanent deals for a combined €5m. Although they’ve yet to hold down a spot in the Levante coach’s line-up this season. Mickael Malsa and Son also arrived on free transfers from the Spanish second division.

Lopez will certainly hope his fresh additions can make the required impact as Levante bid to move up in the standings. The Frogs lost their season opener 4-2 to Valencia, but their 3-1 away victory at Osasuna was impressive. Their performance on Thursday’s 1-0 defeat to Sevilla, meanwhile, was a decent effort.

The question is can Levante spring another surprise on Real Madrid? On paper, it seems unlikely. But the visitors are yet to hit top form this term and suffered a shock 1-0 loss to Lopez’s side through Jose Luis Morales’ late winner last time out.

Key Team Stats
  • Lost two of their first three league games this season (all away).
  • Under 2.5 goals scored in eight of their last 10 home league games.
  • Won four of their last 10 home league games (D3 L3).

Real Madrid Form & Stats

The LaLiga champions haven’t quite hit top form, despite winning two of their opening three games. Seven points out of a possible nine is still a decent haul, but dropping any points on Sunday would be unwelcome. Especially as it could leave them trailing Barcelona for the international break, with the Catalans boasting a game in hand.

Real Madrid must also be wary of the upcoming Clasico at Camp Nou on October 25 and the return of the Champions League four days earlier. Therefore, Zinedine Zidane will be determined to claim victory at Levante.

The Whites boss will be equally wary of his team’s sluggish performance at home to Valladolid last Wednesday. It may have ended in a 1-0 win, but they struggled to break down the visitors’ defense until substitute Vinicius Junior scored a 65th-minute winner.

Key Team Stats
  • Won 12 of their last 14 league games.
  • Won three of their last five away league games (D2).
  • Over 2.5 goals scored in last five away league games.

Team News

Levante: Cheick Doukoure (injured); Ruben Rochina & Hernani (both doubts).
