During the same interview with France Football, Leonardo made an unexpected revelation about Mbappe and Neymar’s wages.

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have elevated wages that only a handful of clubs can pay for their elevated salaries. There is even a major chance that PSG won’t be able to pay for both players by next season due to the global pandemic. Not having supporters at the stadium is one of the major blows any football club can get and it affects the players. Just think about it, Neymar earns around €35 million per season.

While Mbappe is already earning €21 million but he is still quite young. The tendency dictates the Frenchman’s salary will only increase as he keeps getting better, which means his club will have to pay him accordingly. Only state-controlled clubs such as PSG or Manchester City can pay him what he demands. Institutions such as FC Barcelona or Real Madrid simply can’t afford a salary as elevated.

Leonardo warns the rest of European clubs.

When it comes to having two of the greatest players in the world at your club, it’s easy to see how their salaries can become problematic. FC Barcelona is the perfect example of this with two of the highest-paid players in the world. Leo Messi shares the dressing room with Antoine Griezmann. Between the two of them, they get paid nearly €75 million after-tax.

If PSG was to increase Mbappe’s salary, they simply wouldn’t be able to pay for both him and Neymar. During his interview with France Football, Leonardo warned other clubs about this: “Choosing between Neymar or Mbappe? It is true that the situation is very complicated, but if PSG do not have the means right now to be able to keep its two stars, which team has the capacity to pay the salary of either player? I don’t think any team,”
