As a way to honor his career at the club, Lautaro Martinez recently hailed the brilliant career of a bonafide Inter Milan all-time legend.
There are few Inter Milan legends like the one Lautaro Martinez just lauded during an interview with UEFA.com. If we want to mention some of the Nerazzurri club’s greatest players, we can either pick one from the old days or the treble.
Out of the greatest players in the club’s history, very few will have Javier Zanetti’s resume. Lautaro has the former skipper as one of his biggest inspirations at Inter due to all the titles he conquered and what he means to the club.
While he still remains in Italy playing for Inter, Lautaro can only dream of having a career as impressive as the one Zanetti had. ‘Puppi’ is not only Inter’s most decorated player ever, he is also one of Serie A’s most revered footballers.
Zanetti helped Lautaro’s adaptation.
When he first arrived from Argentina as a youngster, Lautaro Martinez had practically no one to help him adapt to a new country. Zanetti was there to help him with the language barrier and several other stuff. For this alone, Martinez will always be grateful for what ‘Puppi’ did for him.
“Javier is a very important Inter man,” Lautaro said on UEFA.com, “and for us [players] as well because he passes down to us everything he’s experienced at this club,” he added.
“He did so to me when I first came to Italy. Whenever I’ve needed something, he’s always tried to help me. He always lends an ear and asks how I’m doing or gives me a hand with anything I might need. He’s always there to make sure I’m alright inside the club and outside too.
“Above all, he helped me with the language when I arrived, with what the club meant and how we train. He was very important in those matters, so I’ll always be grateful to him. He really helped me out when I got here.”
