Frank Lampard has responded to reports he is under pressure and in danger of getting the sack as Chelsea manager.

It’s only the first game of 2021 but Frank Lampard finds himself in the hot-seat already.

A series of woeful performances from Chelsea leaves the former Blues star in danger of losing his job.

Lampard watched on in contempt as his side fell flat to a disappointing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester City.

That result meant the Blues have only one win in their last six games. As a result, they have dropped to eighth place from occupying the top spot at several points in the season.

Following their most recent defeat, reports started to emerge claiming Lampard was on thin ice and could be given his marching orders should poor results continue under his guidance.

The Englishman himself knows he is under pressure and was quick to respond to rumors/claims about his future as manager of the club.

Reacting to his side’s defeat, Lampard said to the club’s website: “I expected periods of difficulty this year. I said it when we beat Leeds and people were championing us to be title contenders. I know it doesn’t come that easy. I know where we are at.”

“One month ago people were asking when I’m signing a new contract, and now people will be saying different things because in a tight, busy period we have lost four games of football in quick succession.”

“The pressure remains constant in this job. In tough moments that will be there, I’m not unaware of that. My job is to keep working, and lift the players who felt the differences of City in the first half.”

Lampard continued: “We are fighting to try and match their levels and I know it takes us time. The reality is a lot of the players who have come in are new, are young, have been injured, haven’t played together. It was the first time I’ve been able to play Ziyech, Pulisic, and Werner in the same team.”

Chelsea once went on a run of 16 unbeaten games across all competitions this term. Frank Lampard remains confident his side can bounce back and return to winning ways soon enough.

He added: “Without a doubt we have the character to get out of it, because we went 16 games unbeaten. What we can control is what we do tonight and tomorrow and the next day and what we do against Morecambe and what we do against Fulham.”
