According to a report, Frank Lampard is at risk of losing his Chelsea job following his side’s abysmal defeat to Manchester City.

Frank Lampard’s position as Chelsea boss is hanging by a thin thread following a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday evening.

City scored three first-half goals at Stamford Bridge to put the game beyond their opponents early on. A late goal for Callum Hudson-Odoi was the only consolation for the Blues in a game where they were totally second best.

The defeat was Chelsea’s fourth in their last six Premier League games. Excluding their 3-0 victory over West Ham, it also meant they have conceded nine goals in the games they failed to win.

Despite splashing over £200m in the summer, the Blues have looked poor in recent weeks with the form of big money arrivals Kai Havertz and Timo Werner being of particular concern.

As per The Athletic, this is one of several reasons for Lampard being in danger of the sack.

There are also mounting tensions between the manager and a number of players who have been starved of regular game-time so far. A certain Olivier Giroud comes to mind.

The most notable bone of contention is the Blues’ recent poor form. Defeat against City means Chelsea have fewer points after 17 Premier League matches this season than they did last campaign.

Considering their summer spend, Lampard has no excuses in that regard.

It’s believed Mauricio Pochettino would have been one of the most attractive candidates. However, the ex-Spurs man has a new adventure with French giants PSG.

The Athletic report adds that Chelsea will not hesitate to act sooner rather than later if they decide a change is required.

The Blues take on Morecambe in the FA Cup next weekend before clashes with Fulham, Leicester, and Wolves in the Premier League.
