Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has reacted to talk that the Blues are genuine contenders for the Premier League title this term.
Frank Lampard insists Chelsea fans are not out of their depth to think that the Blues can go all out to win the Premier League this season. However, the Blues boss says he won’t get carried away by his side’s impressive form at the moment.
Goals from Olivier Giroud, Kurt Zouma, and Christian Pulisic saw the Blues record a comeback 3-1 victory against Leeds on Saturday.
After conceding early, the Blues were the better team for most of the game and were deserved winners at the end of the day.
That result meant Frank Lampard and company are now unbeaten in their last 13 outings in all competitions.
The win also saw them rise to the top of the Premier League standings although they can still be overtaken by Liverpool and Tottenham who are yet to play their fixtures.
The win was also significant as it saw Chelsea win their first game following the return of fans to stadiums. There is already talk of the west London side as title challengers and Lampard doesn’t see why fans can’t be optimistic about it all.
Asked if the Chelsea fans are right to consider the Blues as title contenders, Lampard said as per The Independent: “There’s nothing wrong with the fans thinking that, their input was huge, the noise they made tonight was huge, and you can see how excited they are.
“But my job and our job is not to get carried away, to know it’s a long season, and to understand just how much and where exactly we can improve.
“This was a big win for us though, so I will let myself enjoy the evening and have a small glass of wine, maybe even a large one to be fair, but I’ll certainly stay grounded.”
Even a certain rival coach sees the Blues as genuine title contenders.
