Frank Lampard was pleased with his side’s performance and a return to winning ways following their 4-0 victory over Morecambe on Sunday.

Lampard would have been delighted to see his side win and ease the mounting pressure on his position as Chelsea boss.

Three games without a win for the Blues saw reports claim the club’s hierarchy were losing patience with the 42-year-old.

There was no further shock at Stamford Bridge as Lampard watched his side dispatch Morecambe with ease via a 4-0 score-line.

It proved a good afternoon for the Blues with Mason Mount opening the scoring and then Timo Werner notching his first goal in 12 games.

Callum Hudson-Odoi, who impressed, struck the third and the victory was rounded off late on by Kai Havertz.

Speaking after the game, Lampard admitted first of all that he was pleased with a win.

“It was professional,” he said as per the club’s website. “We could have scored more goals maybe but the game was very comfortable, although it wasn’t easy.

“Credit to Morecambe because they were very organized, sat deep, and in the early parts of the game, they covered all the spaces. It took a while to break them down but I was pleased. It was a game we should win with the squad we have and we did because we did everything right.

“We’ve had some results we don’t like recently so it was an important part of the process to deal with this game in the right way.”

After struggling for goals, Lampard was finally pleased to see Timo Werner get in on the goals once again.

He added: “I’m pleased for him because strikers want to score goals. He’s had a few near-misses in that time, he’s been getting into positions but it hasn’t been going in for him.

“I was pleased to play him today, get him the confidence of scoring a goal. I think it’s important that we understand both Timo and Kai are young lads coming into this league and tough patches are normal.”
