The Blues striker extended his goalless run to 10 games in all competitions after a derby defeat to Arsenal.

Frank Lampard admitted Timo Werner didn’t give Chelsea ‘enough with or without the ball’ and plans to have ‘a conversation’ with the forward.

Werner’s struggles continued on Saturday evening as Chelsea fell to a 3-1 derby defeat to London rivals Arsenal. He had a few half-chances in the match but couldn’t make the desired impact. Therefore, Lampard replaced him with Callum Hudson-Odoi during the break.

The €53m summer signing from RB Leipzig last scored a goal for the club in a 4-1 win over Sheffield United on November 7.

“Certainly the goals not going in is always something an attacking player will get judged on,” said Lampard in a post-match conference at the Emirates Stadium.

“The subs, I could have made more. But I felt I had to make the subs in those two areas to inject energy.

“For today, Timo wasn’t giving us enough with or without the ball. Some of it we have to give him time. I keep saying the same thing because it’s a different league, but we also have to get there quickly.

“We’ll see about the tiredness – I’ll have a conversation with him. But I felt I had to make changes to change the course of the match.”
