Callum Hudson-Odoi needs to work on his off-the-ball movement before establishing himself as a regular for Chelsea, suggests Frank Lampard.

Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi was one of the several benefactors of Frank Lampard’s policy of youth promotion last season as he made a total of 35 appearances in 2019/20.

This term, however, Hudson-Odoi, who has played less than 320 minutes so far, finds himself without as much trust of his manager as before.

A major reason for the 19-year old’s reduced game time is the arrival of a number of new faces in the likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz at Stamford Bridge.

The English winger, as a result, has been linked with a move away from London amid reports of Bayern Munich interested in signing him on loan.

Lampard recently highlighted Hudson-Odoi’s biggest weakness, suggesting that he needs to improve his off the ball movement in order to break into Chelsea’s starting XI.

“With Callum, his work off the ball is something I am trying to improve because at this level in the Premier League, you see how we worked last year, and Willian was the first trigger in us winning the ball back,” the manager said, via Goal.

“He covered so much ground in high areas, at speed, off the ball. Wingers have to have that mindset these days. That’s something I put on Callum and he has to improve on little bits and he did better, but he can still do more.”
