Ahead of Chelsea’s derby encounter with Tottenham, Frank Lampard talked about his all-time Premier League record.

Frank Lampard shares a Premier League record with Didier Drogba for the highest number of goals in combination by a duo. And now he believes that there is a deadly duo present in the Premier League who can break that stat. Chelsea will be facing their north London rivals Tottenham this weekend at Stamford Bridge. With Jose Mourinho controlling the chariot of his side, it will be a challenging time for Lampard and his men.

The Portuguese who guided the Blues to successful seasons during his spell will bring his current team in action. And clearly, Spurs are in best-form at the moment and sit on the top of the English League table. However, this winning streak has been majorly backed by two of the charismatic stars of Tottenham. Yes, we are talking about Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min.

The England skipper and the South Korean superstar already have nine goals and assists link-ups between each other in just nine games. The pair moves close to the single-season record held by Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton with 13. But, for their entire Premier League careers, their stat is 29, which is seven shy of the all-time record held by Lampard and Drogba.

A lesson to be learned.

Lampard believes that Kane and Son will not take much time to go past his record with the ex-Chelsea striker. However, he is not worried to lose against them in terms of the numbers. There is something more important than that. He told the press: “They are certainly a threat to that record. And they are going to beat it comfortably with the way they are playing,” the 42-year-old stated. “I have got no qualms about that record.

“It is something me and Didier would be proud of to a degree. But this is football and it moves on. Players of their level will always test that.”

“Yes, I am aware of their threat,” he added. “You look at the numbers they produce, both of them. Their link-up play and understanding are clear. Fair play to them, the coach and the way they work as a team. So it is something we have to be aware of and we can’t look beyond that. It is a big strength of theirs but it is not their only strength, there are lots of different areas. We have to try and nullify that and make the most of our positives in our squad.

“I spoke a lot about relationships in the early part of the season. Because we brought some players in and the transitional feel of that. With players like Son and Kane, they have worked on that for a good few years now. And I suppose we are in the early stages of that. I would love our players to gain relationships like that. So they know what each other are doing and have that level of talent.”
