During an interview with Sport, one of La Masia’s youth coaches at FC Barcelona revealed some major secrets about Ansu Fati.
Ansu Fati is definitely the most advanced La Masia student in many years, FC Barcelona is grooming him to become the next big star. The start of the season he is having can already be compared to several football legends at the same age. His progression is not only amazing with his club, but also with his national team.
We all started searching for answers of this player as comparisons started emerging. His La Masia first coach wanted to shed some light into the beginnings of the most promising talent at FC Barcelona right now. The manager who got to coach the 17-year-old when he was only 10, is Marc Serra.
When he arrived in Barcelona, Ansu started playing for the Alevin A category in Spanish football. His impact was swift and nothing short of incredible. This is the type of player who barely made an effort when he played with young players his own age. During his first season as a player for La Masia, Ansu scored 57 goals.

Manager Marc Serra was surprised when he first laid eyes on Ansu Fati. Initially, he didn’t think the kid made a major effort but he got his mind blown on the very next match.
“He was always quite mature on the pitch. Ansu did things that weren’t normal for a kid his age, he completely walked over players his own age. The first time I saw him was at a tournament in Cambrils, where he plays a bit relaxed and misses a few touches.
“By the next match, he scored eight goals. He may have started taking things seriously by then. We always practiced in the same style and with the same ideas. He assimilated it instantly.”.
Only time will tell how good Ansu Fati will become at Barcelona. But for now, he already has a starring role next to Leo Messi and a secured spot with Spain under Luis Enrique. Not too shabby for a 17-year-old.
