Ace Football presents a detailed view of the fixtures played in the 30th gameweek of the La Liga campaign.

Another matchday of La Liga action ended on Monday as teams locked horns with their opponents during the weekend.

Ten matches took place across Spain, with the league’s table seeing a few significant changes.

As we prepare for another exciting week of La Liga football, let’s review our main takeaways from Matchday 33.

Barca are back in the winning ways

The Catalans went into their La Liga match against Real Sociedad on the back of two surprising home defeats. They crashed out of Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt before losing against Cadiz in La Liga.

Barca were far from their best against Sociedad but still managed to clinch a 1-0 win. Xavi Hernandez’s side registered only one shot on target while being under pressure for a good chunk of the game.

A header from Aubameyang kept Barcelona second in La Liga. The Catalans are now level on points with Sevilla, whose lower goal difference holds them in third place.

Barcelona will continue their league campaign with a home match against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday. Let’s see if Xavi’s team can end their two-game winless run at Camp Nou by beating the 14th-placed side.

Atletico continue to struggle for goals

Man City did a wonderful job of keeping Atletico Madrid at bay in the second leg of their UCL quarter-final clash last week. However, the Rojiblancos’ goalscoring struggles did not stop there.

They defeated Espanyol with a last-minute goal before being held to a goalless draw at home by Granada. The 18th-placed side played a solid defensive performance, but Atletico’s lack of composure was impossible to ignore.

Diego Simeone’s side are fighting to keep their spot among the top-four as they sit four points above fifth-placed Real Betis. Next week, they will meet Athletic Bilbao, who defeated Cadiz 3-2 last week.

Real Madrid continue marching toward the La Liga title

Following a sensational comeback against Sevilla, Real Madrid returned to La Liga action by claiming an easy win against Osasuna this week.

Goals from David Alaba, Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez bagged three more points for the Blancos, who are on the verge of winning their 35th La Liga title. They need to claim four points from their next five games to be crowned champions.

Before that, however, Real Madrid must play a crucial battle against Manchester City in the Champions League. The Blancos will travel to Manchester to face the Citizens in the first leg on Tuesday.

Villarreal claim back-to-back wins ahead of Liverpool clash

The Yellow Submarines have displayed great form in their recent matches. Following an impressive 1-1 draw against Bayern at Allianz Arena, Unai Emery’s side defeated Getafe in La Liga last week.

They face Valencia at home on Tuesday, beating the Bats with two first-half goals. The guests pushed hard to get back into the game in the second half, but Villarreal kept their defensive integrity until the end.

Having already eliminated Bayern and Juventus from the Champions League, Emery’s side will go into another European battle as underdogs this week.

This time, they will meet Liverpool in the semifinals. The Reds are dreaming of winning a quadruple this season, but Villarreal are too good to be considered an easy opponent.

Mallorca take a big step toward relegation escape

Mallorca defeated Alaves 2-1 in a crucial bottom-of-the-table battle this week. The Pirates bounced back from their defeat against Elche to go 16th on the league table.

They are still only two points away from the danger zone. However, given their recent attacking stats, they might have a good chance of earning enough points to escape relegation.

This weekend, Mallorca will face travel to Camp Nou to face Barcelona. Let’s see if they can find the back of the net against the La Liga giants.
