Ahead of their match against Sevilla, Ronald Koeman made an interesting revelation about Messi after he attempted to leave Barcelona.
Lionel Messi’s attempt to leave Barcelona left Ronald Koeman with uncertainty at first. When he ultimately decided to stay, one would think the Argentine wouldn’t be as committed to the cause. But even he said it during his interview after what happened: Messi’s commitment cannot be questioned.
As a way to confirm this, Ronald Koeman spoke about the captain’s role in Barcelona’s brilliant start of the season in the Spanish La Liga. Although the main focus has been on Ansu Fati, there’s no question that Messi’s influence is still there. Koeman wanted to explain specifics about the Argentine’s work after the whole saga that gave us a happy ending. Leo is set to remain at the club and the supporters have nothing to worry about for another season.
Messi is happy with Koeman’s work.
If it wasn’t for Ronald Koeman’s work with the squad, Messi wouldn’t be as committed as he is right now. The Dutch manager came to the club to change many different aspects of the preparation. He spoke about Messi’s work in practice without realizing that Messi only responds well when the gaffer is doing his job properly.
“From day one, Leo has trained and played well and has given the maximum for the club, for his team and for his team-mates and I have had no complaints about him on any day,” Koeman told reporters on Barcelona’s website.
“He proved himself once again the other day against Celta, he pulled his weight as a captain, he helped the team play the ball out from the back because it’s so important to keep the ball when you have one less player.
“There’s no debate, for me he has always been the best player in the world, I thought that before from the outside and I think it even more now I’m working with him. He’s fully committed, he’s an example to everyone as a captain should be.”
