After his recent comments on referees were spotted by the Spanish Football Federation, Gerard Pique also got a message from Koeman.

Although he’s a grown man who can say what he wants, Gerard Pique still got some advice from Ronald Koeman today. The Catalan defender has been complaining about referees helping Real Madrid throughout his entire career. However, the most recent comments he made were too public to ignore by the Spanish Football Federation. In recent times, examples have been made about the ones who make comments against either referees or the usage of VAR.

All Ronald Koeman wants is to deviate the negative publicity this is giving FC Barcelona as a club. Even though he might agree with what Pique is saying, he also understands it can easily backfire on the whole squad. Keep in mind that Gerard Pique is barely starting to recover from a recent knee injury and getting suspended for this will only affect his teammates. For the gaffer, the best option is to remain quiet when it comes to topics like this one.

What did Koeman tell Pique?

During the most recent press conference offered by the manager, Koeman said the following about Pique’s comments on referees and VAR via Goal: “It’s my problem if they sanction because of these statements, but he has enough experience to say what he wants. But you have to take care because, [even] with little [pushback], they can make you a problem. If you have to criticize, do so with respect so they can’t do anything to you. Tomorrow’s game is more important than PSG [right now]. We’re going game by game and it’s important to win before Tuesday’s game.”

On another note about Pique, the player is recovering from his injury faster than expected. The club filtered information about his intentions to make it to the Copa del Rey semifinal return leg against Sevilla. With the return leg against PSG as his final objective. But making these comments could leave him out of both matches for other reasons.
