Ahead of a crucial weekend for Barcelona, Ronald Koeman revealed which club he supports for the Madrid Derby between Atletico and Real.

You won’t see Ronald Koeman supporting Real Madrid often, especially with his Blaugrana inclinations. The Dutch manager goes into a crucial weekend in which Barcelona needs to defeat Osasuna but the main attention will be on Madrid. Atletico currently leads the table with 58 points and one more match still to play. Both Real Madrid and Barça trail them with 53 units and all matches played.

If Los Blancos win, they will move within two points from them as the Catalan club would if they beat Osasuna. This leaves Koeman in a strange position where he will support Zidane’s team with everything he’s got. If things go their way, the Colchoneros will lose points and they will be closer than ever to the top this season. But first things first for Barcelona, they need to focus on Osasuna and get a result that fills them with confidence to face PSG next week.

Koeman hopes Real Madrid can help them.

Without thinking too much into what it means to support Real Madrid, Ronald Koeman was blunt with his reasoning behind it. He knows it’s a strange position but he doesn’t mind it as long as Atletico Madrid lose points. As per Marca, this is what Koeman had to say: “Our game is very important because there’s a game between Atletico and Real Madrid on Sunday in which one or both can lose points.

“What matters tomorrow is winning in a game that will cost us against a strong squad at their own stadium. We need to be prepared for everything. First, we have to play our game. The team needs to win. It will always be great when the team on top loses points. But we can’t obsess with their match because we also need to win and that can also backfire.”
