Right when everybody thought he was finished, along comes Messi to silence critics with a blistering start of 2021. Ronald Koeman may not use the ideal system to play that Barcelona supporters prefer, but he is getting the results he needs. In recent days, the Catalan club has dominated his opponents without an issue but Messi has been key in every game.
With his brace against Granada, Leo already scored four goals and supplied an assist in three games. The start of the year has been exactly what Leo needed. So much so that he is already La Liga’s leading scorer with 11 goals. Ronald Koeman knows how important the captain is for this squad, they needed to help him be comfortable again. Things seem to be working so far.
Koeman knows how much Barcelona need Messi.
After the match against Granada, Ronald Koeman spoke about Leo Messi’s importance for this club. If they want him to stay, the Dutchman has a lot of work to do in order to convince him of this project. As per Goal, this is what Koeman said after the match: “Barca need Messi, we need him to achieve great things and fight for the titles,” explained Koeman.
“With the score, we were able to make changes and rest very important players like Messi and De Jong. If all the players are in good condition, we can compete for all the titles. This streak of results gives us a lot of confidence.”
