The pressure continues to pile on the manager following a disappointing defeat to Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

Ronald Koeman left to rue the manner in how Barcelona conceded the match-winning goal in their 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid, which left them nine points behind the joint-La Liga leaders in the standings.

The winner came towards the end of the break when Gerard Pique failed to clear an Angel Correa pass. A rare Marc-Andre ter Stegen blunder then allowed Yannick Carrasco to slip the ball into an empty net from the halfway line.

“It is worrying,” said Koeman as quoted on beINSPORTS.

“For a big team, conceding a goal like this … it can’t be, because it’s the 47th minute, we had the ball and then they score, 1-0.

“We controlled and we knew that it was difficult to create many chances. We had a pair and with the score 0-0, the game would have been totally different [if they had taken either chance].

“Like any coach, I am responsible for the team’s results.”

Barcelona have now won just one of their last six La Liga outings to fall nine points behind leaders Real Sociedad and Atletico. And while they have a game in hand over the former, that’s not the case with Diego Simeone’s side.

“It’s a pretty big difference, but there is a lot of the league left and a lot of games,” admitted Koeman.

“We know that every match is complicated, but after this defeat we have to chain an important winning streak.

“I have seen a team that has fought until the last second to been able to level the game, so in this sense I am not worried.”

Pique, meanwhile, suffered a knee injury in Madrid and will need to undergo tests to determine the full extent of it.
