The new Barcelona youngster has admitted to a lack of confidence at Camp Nou, but his manager has complete faith in him.
Ronald Koeman has backed Sergino Dest to get back to his best for Barcelona after the youngster’s recent admission over his struggles.
Dest, who arrived from Ajax in October for a €21m deal, has featured prominently under Koeman. The Blaugrana boss has handed him 21 appearances in all competitions, including 18 starts.
The 20-year-old’s versatility has proven a useful asset, having played as a right and left-back this season. He hasn’t always been at his best, however, and recently confessed to feeling a ‘bit unconfident’.

"For me, it's important to get that confidence back because I feel a little bit unconfident right now. That's the most important thing for me right now: get the confidence back and play like I used to play and then I think I have a lot of potential." pic.twitter.com/RG1Qly4wAM

But Koeman understands Dest needs time, although he is still confident the United States international will come good.
“Sergino has played a lot of games and this is just his first season with Barca,” said Koeman as quoted by ESPN.
“He’s a very young player and it’s complicated for the youngsters. He’s been injured but he seems to have recovered and we will decide on Sunday if he starts or is on the bench.
“I hope he has no more problems with injuries, can get some rhythm back and provide competition.”
Dest hopes to help Barcelona extend their unbeaten run in La Liga to nine matches in Sunday’s visit to Elche.
