Ahead of El Clasico, Ronald Koeman came out to defend Real Madrid from Jurgen Klopp’s recent criticism about their stadium.

Out of anyone who would have defended Real Madrid from Jurgen Klopp’s criticism, we certainly didn’t expect Koeman to do so. To those who don’t remember, the Liverpool manager came out to bash Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium by calling it a “training pitch” before losing there. If that result wasn’t enough, Ronald Koeman wanted to defend Los Blancos even further right before El Clasico on Saturday.

We are about to witness a crunch match between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid at the same stadium. Koeman is ready and his players are eager to step on the pitch. Although this is no Santiago Bernabeu, the Barcelona manager believed this pitch also deserves respect. The only thing is that Real Madrid supporters weren’t expecting getting this defense from an unlikely source.

Koeman demands respect for Real Madrid.

Just before the biggest match of the season for both clubs, Ronald Koeman spoke to the press and responded to Jurgen Klopp’s criticism via AS: “That discredits Real Madrid a little bit, They have chosen this moment to carry out work on their stadium, well done [to them]. For the players, it’s hard to play without fans regardless. Maybe Madrid are used to playing there but the opposition know where they’re going to play and that’s it. It’s not important for me.

“I am sure the pitch will be good and that’s the most important thing. Madrid are Madrid. They have had, I think, too much criticism. But they are still in the Champions League and are fighting to win the league. I don’t agree with people that have criticized Madrid a lot. They have a great coach and great players.”
