Ahead of the Spanish El Clasico, Zinedine Zidane revealed whether he wants Messi to stay or stop playing in La Liga next season.

Lionel Messi has been Real Madrid’s terror for the last two decades, but not under Zinedine Zidane. The French manager has done an exceptional job trying to mitigate the attacks coming from ‘La Pulga’ during his time as Los Blancos’ manager. But for the last three seasons, Leo hasn’t been able to score a single goal against them. Even if the case was the exact opposite, ‘Zizou’ seems like the kind of manager who loves a good challenge.

He knows that Messi’s presence in La Liga only helps improve the competition. In recent years, Spanish football has taken the back seat and allowed the Premier League to return to the top. For Zidane, Messi staying means they have more chances of returning to the top in European football. It’s no wonder he just positioned himself on the matter of Leo’s future.

Zidane wants Messi to stay.

With everybody offering their opinion about Messi possibly leaving Barcelona, ‘Zizou’ has a clear idea of what he wants Leo to do. To nobody’s surprise, this is what the Real Madrid manager said via Marca: “I don’t want it to be Messi’s last Clasico,” Zidane said during Friday’s pre-Clasico press conference. “Let him stay, let him stay at Barcelona. He’s good there. It’s good for LaLiga if he stays.”

“We know what a player Messi is. He may not be scoring goals, but we know what a player he is,” Zidane added. “We are going to play against Barcelona. It’s true that we know what a player he is, but they are all very good. We’re going to try to stop their strengths, because there have a lot. Hopefully it won’t be his last Clasico and he stays here.”
