Jurgen Klopp sent out a clear response to Jose Mourinho who felt Tottenham were the better side despite their defeat to Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp claimed Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Tottenham was ‘absolutely deserved’ after being told by Jose Mourinho ‘the best team lost’.
Salah put the reigning champions in front in the 26th minute but the lead only lasted seven minutes after Spurs went on the counter and equalized through Son.
The game looked headed for a stalemate until Firmino rose highest to score the winner in the 90th minute and send Liverpool three points clear at the top.
Mourinho and Klopp shared a moment on the touchline after the final whistle and the Portuguese manager supposedly told his counterpart Spurs were the better side.
Speaking after the game, the Reds boss praised a resilient Spurs side but claimed the victory was totally deserved by his men.
“The win was absolutely deserved,” Klopp said in response to Mourinho’s comments as per Liverpool Echo.
“They are a top side – a counter-attacking monster – so you have to be really focused, and because they don’t want the ball too much you have play around them and keep them busy.”
“We did that really, really well.”
“What a wonderful goal to win it, a nice corner and a sensational header from Bobby. After this performance, we can take a lot of confidence.”
Liverpool take on Crystal Palace at the weekend and Klopp would be hoping his side can consolidate their lead at the top of the table.
